Just Start Writing Your Beauty Blog

Many people get so overwhelmed at the thought of creating a beauty blog. But, honestly, you’ll never reap the benefits if you don’t start.

Here’s a fact.

It can take up to a year or more to for Google to index your blog. That means, you will not see traffic from google search results for a year or more.

So every day that you spend overthinking your beauty blog, is another day longer that you have to wait to reap the benefits.

I tell everyone to just start writing and then fix the appearance of your blog later. You can do everything to make a single post look presentable using the blocks provided by WordPress. Click here for to see a video tutorial on how to set up your blog and create your first post.

Planning Your Beauty Blog Content

When you start a beauty blog, you need to make a plan for how often you will work on your blog. You will want to set aside a time that is dedicated to your beauty blog.

Determine whether you want to work on your blog once a day, once per week, or once per month. No matter what you decide, the most important thing is to be consistent.

Once you have developed a schedule for when you will work on your beauty blog, you will want to keep a running list of topics that you will write about. I like to use the “NOTES” app in my Iphone to keep track. And I keep.

SEO Keywords and your Beauty Blog

When determining the topic of your first blog post, you’ll want to do a little bit of research before (or after) you put the words to print. The type of research I am talking about is SEO Keyword Research.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is essentially the language that the search engine, like Google, reads to determine which posts rank at the top of the results.

According to Wordstream, your SEO keywords are the keywords and phrases in your web content that make it possible for people to find your site via search engines. A website that is well optimized for search engines “speaks the same language” as its potential visitor base with keywords for SEO that help connect searchers to your site.

In other words, if you use keywords throughout your post, your blog can eventually be ranked when someone searches for that term.

Determining what Keywords to Use

To determine what keywords to use, do a simple Google search about the topic you plan to write about. Take a look at the content that is ranking at the top of Google for those keywords.

Then scroll to the bottom and look at the suggestions. This can give you ideas for keywords to insert into your content. You should sprinkle your chosen keywords throughout your blog to give the search engine an idea of what your blog is about. This will allow it to eventually be ranked on the search engine.

The best keyword research tool on the market is through Google AdWords. It is free to set up a Google adwords account and use their keyword planner tool.

Google is the most utilized search engine, so using their keyword planner will be the most advantageous for you.

Beauty Blog Tools

There are a few tools that can help you rank your Beauty Blog on Google. As you grow, you will want to be able to analyze your website so you can adjust your strategy.

Here are some of my favorite tools to use to help my beauty blog.

  • Google AnalyticsGoogle’s free web analytics service. It allows you to analyze details about the visitors on your website. You can look at things like how much traffic your website is getting and determine from where that traffic originated. It will also tell you which platform your site is most popular on, so you can optimize your content for that.
  • Google Search Console – provides you information about where your site ranks on the google search engine. You can track your sites rankings and progress and adjust your strategy accordingly. Google Search Console will also eventually tell you what people are searching to get to your site.
  • Google Keyword Planner – Google’s platform that allows you to research keywords and traffic for that keyword. You can use the information you get from the Keyword planner to create and adjust your keyword strategy.
  • Ubersuggest – Ubersuggest is a SEO strategy tool created by internet marketing genius Neil Patel. You an use ubersuggest to help you develop and further narrow down your personal SEO Strategy.

Share Your Beauty Blog

So you have done the work to create your beauty blog, but now it’s time to promote it!

Did you know?

Research suggests that successful internet marketers spend 10% of their time creating their beauty blogs and 90% of time promoting it? That’s a pretty important piece!

As a matter of fact, as outlined in this post, promoting your blog should look like this:

For every hour you spend writing, you should spend 54 minutes promoting it.

Promoting your Beauty Blog

So now you know that you have to spend a majority of your time promoting your blog.

But how do you actually promote it?

Better yet, how do you promote it SUCCESSFULLY?

The most important tip is to concentrate on producing good content that engages your reader. Just like when you’re selling a product in your direct sales business, your content should solve the reader’s problem.

Why should a reader choose YOUR content? What makes it different than other content out there? When you create a good experience for your reader, you will have much better success promoting your blog.

You never want to copy and plagiarize someone else’s content without giving them proper credit. Most often, you’ll want to link to the site you’re copying the quote from (more on collaborating with other bloggers, later).

Promoting your Blog on Social Media

Before you post on social media, take a minute to decide who is going to be attracted to your beauty blog. What problem is your beauty blog solving.

When you decide who your perfect reader is, it’s easier to find out where that person is hanging out online. Keeping your reader in mind, go to the places online where that person is hanging out. Use relevant hashtags that your reader will be looking for. Create social media content that will grab the interest of your potential reader first.

You probably know by now that your direct sales business will never be successful simply by generickly sharing your company name and link. Promoting your content works in much the same way. You have to give people a reason to read your content

Here are a list of social media platforms that I use to promote my blog:

  • Facebook – post in groups relevant to the topic, share on my business page and personal profile
  • Instagram – use relevant hashtags and stories to promote the content
  • TikTok – produce videos that relate to the content and use relevant hashtags that my readers will be searching
  • Pinterest – You can share images from your website to help you generate traffic
  • LinkedIn
  • Youtube – produce videos around the content and link them to my blog

I love being able to streamline my social media posting for my blog using Tailwind – a platform that helps me schedule content. Tailwind helps me schedule content so I can do everything all at once and be strategic about marketing my blog. It takes the guesswork out of promoting my beauty blog. You can sign up and get a free month to try it out for yourself.

As an Avon Representative, I also utilize Avon Social, a platform provided by Multibrain, to schedule content to my social media and generate traffic to my blog. You can sign up to become an Avon Representative for free. Your sign up will give you a free beauty affiliate link and access to the Avon Social platform and 1000s of pre-designed images.

Collaborate with Other Beauty Bloggers

Sending traffic to your blog is such a small factor in ranking it. It used to be that more traffic would translate into higher rankings, but that simply isn’t the case anymore.

Google wants to ensure that your content provides a good user experience. But they also want to know that your content also provides value to OTHERS.

Instead of seeing other beauty bloggers in your niche as competitors, it’s important to change your perception. It’s time to start looking at them as allies.

When you can collaborate and develop relationships with other bloggers, you can help each other achieve results. Not everyone is going to be offering the same content as you. And when you collaborate with others, you can both achieve a mutual gain.

Remember – Google wants to see a good USER experience. And if another bloggers content provides a better experience for your users, it will only help you in the rankings.

Collaborating with other beauty bloggers can only help you both achieve more success.
